How to Use Claude for Instagram: Captions, Reels and Carousels

How to use Claude for Instagram: plan a month of posts, write captions, script Reels, outline carousels, read your Insights, and what Claude can't do for you.

Workflows

On this page

Claude can't post to Instagram on its own. There's no built-in Instagram or Meta connector, so out of the box it can't log in to your account, publish a post or reply to a DM. What it can do is almost everything around the post: plan your month, write captions in your voice, script Reels, outline carousels and send them to Canva, draft comment replies, and read screenshots of your Insights to tell you what's working. If you want Claude to schedule posts too, you can add a third-party scheduling connector like Metricool. This guide shows you how to set it up and gives you copy-paste prompts for each job, as of October 2026.

TL;DR

QuestionShort answer
Can Claude post to Instagram? Not by itself. A scheduling connector (Metricool is in Claude's official directory) can schedule and publish for you.
Is there a Claude Instagram connector? Not from Meta or Anthropic. Third-party tools like Metricool, Buffer and Hootsuite connect instead.
What is Claude best at for Instagram?Captions, content calendars, Reel scripts, carousel outlines, replies and reading your stats.
Can Claude make the images? It doesn't generate photos. It can build designs through the Canva connector or Claude Design.
Is it free? Most of this works on the free plan. Some extras, like Claude in Chrome, need a paid plan.

Set up Claude for your brand first

The biggest mistake people make is opening a blank chat and typing "write me an Instagram caption." You get generic copy because Claude knows nothing about you. Spend 15 minutes setting it up once, and every post after that sounds like your business.

Use a Project. A Project is a workspace in Claude that remembers files and context across every chat inside it. Projects are on every plan, including Free (free accounts get up to five), and on paid plans you can also add project instructions that apply to every chat in that Project. If you're new to them, Claude Projects explained walks through the setup. Source: What are projects? (opens in a new tab)

Make a Project called "Instagram" and upload:

  • A brand brief (use the prompt below to write one)
  • 5 to 10 of your best past captions, the ones that got the most saves or comments
  • Your offers and prices, so Claude can mention them correctly
  • A list of words and phrases you never use

You can also create a custom Style by uploading writing samples, so Claude matches your tone in any chat. Source: Configuring and using styles (opens in a new tab).

Reusable brand brief prompt:

Interview me to build a brand brief for my Instagram account. Ask one
question at a time, and wait for my answer. Cover: what I sell, who my
ideal follower is (age, job, location, what they struggle with), my
tone of voice (3 words), words I never use, my 3 to 5 content pillars,
my main call to action, and 3 accounts I admire and why.
When we're done, write the brief as a one-page document I can save
and upload to a Claude Project.

Save the result as a file and add it to your Project. From then on, every prompt below gets better automatically.

Plan a month of content

A content calendar is where Claude saves the most time. Instead of staring at the app every morning, you plan once and batch.

Using my brand brief, plan 4 weeks of Instagram content. I post
[4] times a week: [2 Reels, 1 carousel, 1 single image].
Make a table with columns: Week, Day, Format, Content pillar, Topic,
Hook (first line), Call to action.
Mix pillars evenly. Include one post per week that sells [my offer]
and keep the rest helpful or personal. Note any holidays or seasonal
moments in [month] that fit my audience.

Follow up with "turn week 1 into full drafts" and work through it a week at a time. If you want Claude to check what's trending first, ask it to search the web. Claude only knows about current trends when it searches, and web search is available in Claude, with Team and Enterprise owners able to turn it on or off for their workspace. Source: Enable and use web search (opens in a new tab).

Write Instagram captions that sound like you

A good caption has three parts: a hook that stops the scroll, a bit of real value, and one clear call to action. Claude is very good at all three once it has your brand brief.

Keep these Instagram limits in mind, as of October 2026:

Write 3 caption options for this post: [describe the photo or Reel,
and the one point you want to make].
Each caption: a hook in the first line (under 12 words), 2 to 4 short
lines of value, then one call to action. Keep each under 1,000
characters. Add up to 5 specific hashtags, not broad ones like
#business. Match the tone in my brand brief. No emojis unless I ask.

Then edit. Ask "make option 2 shorter and more direct" or "rewrite this like I'm talking to one person." Two rounds of feedback usually gets it right.

Outline carousels, then design them in Canva

Carousels get saved and shared because they teach something step by step. Instagram lets you post up to 20 photos or videos in one carousel in the app (Social Media Today (opens in a new tab)), though some scheduling tools still cap it at 10 because Meta's publishing API does. Most good carousels are 6 to 10 slides anyway.

Step 1: get the slide-by-slide outline.

Turn this idea into an Instagram carousel: [topic].
Give me 8 slides. For each slide: the headline (under 8 words), the
body text (under 25 words), and a note on the visual.
Slide 1 is the hook and promises a clear payoff. The last slide asks
people to save the post and follow for more. Then write the caption.

Step 2: build it in Canva. With the Claude Canva connector, Claude can generate a new Canva design from your outline and export it. The official listing describes it as able to "generate new Canva designs directly from Claude" (Canva connector page (opens in a new tab)). It doesn't list carousels as a special feature, so treat Claude's version as a first draft and finish the layout, sizing and brand colors in Canva yourself.

Another option is Claude Design, which builds designs and one-pagers from a chat and can send them on to Canva. It's on every plan, including Free, as of October 2026 (Get started with Claude Design (opens in a new tab)).

One thing Claude won't do: generate photos. It has no image generator, so use your own photos, stock images or Canva's tools for the visuals.

Script Reels and plan the edit

Claude can't edit video or watch an MP4 you upload, but it does the thinking that makes editing fast: the hook, the script, the shot list and the on-screen text. The full breakdown is in can Claude edit videos.

Write a script for a [30-second] Instagram Reel about [topic] for
[audience]. Format it as a table: Time, What I say, What's on screen,
Text overlay. Open with a hook in the first 2 seconds. Keep the spoken
part to about 2.5 words per second. End with one call to action.
Then give me 5 alternative hooks.

Reel length limits vary by account and have changed several times, so check the limit on your own Reels upload screen before you plan a long one. For ready-made hook, cut-list and caption prompts, use the free AI video editing prompt builder and pick Instagram Reels.

Write your Instagram bio

Your bio has 150 characters to say who you help, how, and what to do next. That's tight, which is where Claude helps.

Write 5 Instagram bio options for my account using my brand brief.
Each must be under 150 characters including spaces. Line 1: who I
help and with what. Line 2: proof or personality. Line 3: the call to
action that points to my link. Show the character count for each.

Claude can miscount characters, so check the final version in the app. Or use the free Instagram bio generator, which has a live 150-character counter.

Draft replies to comments and DMs

Replying fast and warmly grows an account, but it eats time. Paste in a batch of comments or a DM and let Claude draft, then you read, edit and send. Claude can't send replies inside Instagram, and you wouldn't want it to without a human check anyway.

Here are comments from my latest post: [paste].
Draft a short reply to each (1 to 2 sentences) in my brand voice.
Answer questions directly. For anyone asking about price or booking,
point them to [link in bio / DM me]. Flag any comment that's a
complaint so I can handle it myself.

Save a list of your most common DM questions and good answers in your Project. Claude will reuse them and keep your answers consistent.

Read your Instagram Insights screenshots

Claude can read images, including screenshots of your Insights. You can upload JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP files, up to 20 per chat, so you can drop in a month of stats at once.

These are screenshots of my Instagram Insights for the last 30 days.
Pull the numbers into a table: post, format, reach, likes, comments,
saves, shares. Tell me my 3 best and 3 worst posts and what they have
in common. Then give me 3 specific changes to try next month.

Ask Claude to show the table before it draws conclusions, so you can spot any number it misread. To check your engagement rate against typical ranges, use the free engagement rate calculator.

Turn one blog post or podcast into a week of posts

If you already make longer content, Claude can stretch one piece into a week.

Here is my [blog post / podcast transcript]: [paste].
Turn it into 7 days of Instagram content: 2 Reel scripts, 2 carousel
outlines, 2 single-image posts with captions, and 1 Story sequence of
4 frames with a poll. Every piece should stand alone. Use my brand
voice and keep the facts exactly as they are in the source.

The Claude for marketing guide covers more repurposing and campaign workflows.

Can Claude schedule or post for you?

Only through a connector. Connectors let Claude take actions in other apps, and a few social media tools now offer one:

  • Metricool is in Claude's official connector directory with the "Anthropic verified" badge. It can schedule posts, update scheduled posts, pull analytics and suggest your best time to post for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads and more (Metricool connector page (opens in a new tab)). You need a Metricool account, and Instagram posting needs a Business or Creator account.
  • Buffer and Hootsuite both publish setup guides for adding their tools to Claude as a custom connector, so Claude can draft and schedule posts in your queue. These aren't directory listings; see Buffer's Claude page and Hootsuite's guide.
  • Windsor.ai is also in the directory, but it only reads data (including Instagram and Meta Ads metrics). It doesn't post.

Whatever you use, keep a human approval step before anything goes live. The Claude connectors guide explains how custom and directory connectors differ.

Claude for other platforms

The same Project and brand brief work across every platform. Change the format, keep the voice.

PlatformCopy-paste prompt
TikTok"Write a 30-second TikTok script about [topic] with a hook in the first second, a fast list of 3 points, and on-screen text for each."
LinkedIn"Turn this idea into a LinkedIn post: a one-line hook, a short story from my work, 3 lessons, and a question at the end. Under 200 words. No hashtags."
YouTube"Give me 10 title options under 60 characters and a description with chapter timestamps for this video transcript: [paste]."
Facebook"Rewrite this Instagram caption for my Facebook page. Make it more conversational and add a question that invites local customers to comment."

Claude vs ChatGPT for social media

Both are strong for social media writing. The differences are in the extras.

ClaudeChatGPT
Captions, scripts, calendarsStrong, especially at matching a set brand voiceStrong

If you need lots of generated images, ChatGPT's built-in image tool is a real advantage (Images in ChatGPT (opens in a new tab)). If you care most about writing that sounds like you, many people prefer Claude. For video specifically, see can ChatGPT edit videos.

What Claude can't do (and what to check)

  • No native posting. Without a scheduling connector, you copy the caption and post it yourself.
  • No live trend data unless it searches. Claude doesn't know today's trending audio or hashtags. Ask it to search the web, and check anything it finds in the app.
  • No photos or video editing. It writes and designs; you shoot, edit and choose images.
  • Facts and claims. Double-check prices, statistics, health or money claims, and anything about competitors before you post.
  • Character counts. Claude can be off by a few characters. Check bios and captions in the app.
  • Platform rules change. Hashtag limits, carousel sizes and Reel lengths have all changed in the last two years. Check Instagram's own settings when it matters.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude post to Instagram?

Not on its own. Claude has no built-in Instagram connector, so it can't log in or publish. You can add a scheduling connector such as Metricool, which is in Claude's official directory, to schedule and publish posts. Otherwise, Claude writes the post and you publish it yourself.

Is Claude good for social media content?

Yes. Claude is strong at captions, content calendars, Reel scripts, carousel outlines and comment replies, especially once you give it a brand brief and past posts in a Project. It doesn't generate photos, so pair it with your own images or Canva.

Can Claude write Instagram captions?

Yes. Give it the post idea, your brand voice and a call to action, and ask for a hook, a few lines of value and up to five hashtags. Instagram captions can be up to 2,200 characters, but keep the hook in the first line because that's all most people see.

Is there a Claude Instagram connector?

Not from Meta or Anthropic, as of October 2026. Third-party tools fill the gap: Metricool is in Claude's official connector directory and can schedule Instagram posts, while Buffer and Hootsuite can be added as custom connectors. Windsor.ai, also in the directory, reads Instagram data but doesn't post.

Should I use Claude or ChatGPT for social media?

Both write good social posts. ChatGPT has built-in image generation, which helps if you need lots of graphics. Claude is often preferred for matching a brand voice, and it connects to Canva and Metricool. Many small businesses use one for writing and another tool for images.
