1.1 Introduction
Time: ~20 minutes
What You'll Learn
- How this course works and what makes it different
- Why non-technical people can now build real software
- How to work with AI as your building partner
- What to expect from the rest of the module
Key Concepts
This is not a coding course. You will not memorize syntax or study computer science. Instead, you will learn to describe what you want clearly enough that AI can build it for you -- and to evaluate what it builds well enough to know if it is right.
Think of it like hiring a contractor to renovate your kitchen. You do not need to know how to install plumbing. But you do need to know:
- What you want the kitchen to do
- Whether the work looks right
- When something needs to be redone
That is exactly the skill set you will develop here.
Why Now?
Two things changed recently:
- AI can write working code. Not toy examples -- real, deployable applications with databases, user interfaces, and business logic.
- Hosting is free. Services like Vercel, Netlify, and Railway offer generous free tiers. Your first app costs nothing to run.
This means the barrier to building software dropped from "hire a developer" to "describe what you need." That is the gap this course fills.
How to Start
Open your AI assistant and introduce yourself:
I'm starting the "Build It Yourself" course. I run a [your type of business].
My biggest operational headache right now is [describe your problem].
I have zero coding experience. Walk me through lesson 1.1.Your AI will help you understand the format and get oriented before moving to the next lesson.
What's Next
In lesson 1.2, you will take that problem you mentioned and turn it into something specific enough to build.
