1.1 Introduction
Meet the course, share your tutoring situation, building your own tools.
Welcome
This course is for freelance tutors who want to stop duct-taping their practice together with spreadsheets, group chats, and sticky notes — and start building real tools that work the way they need them to.
You are not becoming a software engineer. You are becoming someone who can solve their own problems with technology, guided by AI every step of the way.
What We'll Do Together
Over the next several lessons, you will build a student management tool from scratch. It will have:
- A public intake form that parents and students fill out to sign up with you
- An admin dashboard where you track students, log sessions, and manage your schedule
- A deployed app that lives on the internet and looks professional
Before We Start
Take a moment to think about your current tutoring setup:
- How do new students find you and sign up?
- How do you keep track of sessions, hours, and payments?
- What is the most annoying part of running your practice?
These answers will shape what you build. The tool we create will be tailored to your actual situation — not a generic template.
What You Need
- An AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT, or similar)
- A web browser
- Willingness to experiment — you will make mistakes, and that is fine
Next up: 1.2 Scoping the Problem — where we figure out exactly what to build.
